How to use it
- Download a statement CSV from your Etsy payment account, or try the sample file first.
- Drop it in. Nothing is uploaded — the file is read here in your browser.
- Check the column mapping. We guess from the header names; you have the final say.
- Read the balance check. If every row adds up, the totals underneath are trustworthy; if not, you get the exact line numbers.
- Enter what each item costs you to make, and net becomes profit. Export the result as a clean CSV.
How accurate is this?
The arithmetic is exact, and we do not hedge it. Sums, fees, and per-item totals are ordinary arithmetic on the numbers in your file — there is no estimating and no model, so there is nothing to be approximately right about.
It also proves itself. On every row, amount plus fees must equal net. If your columns are what we mapped them to, that equation closes on every line; when it does not, we show you which lines and stop claiming the total is solid. That is a stronger guarantee than any disclaimer, because you can check it yourself.
What we do not do is interpret. We will not tell you what a fee was for, what is deductible, or what belongs on a tax return. Those are judgements about your business and your jurisdiction, and getting them wrong has consequences a free tool should not be creating for you.
Etsy's exports differ by region and change over time, so nothing here depends on a column being named a particular thing. We guess from the headers, show you every guess, and let you correct it. A file we have never seen still works once you point at the right columns.
Frequently asked questions
Is my financial data uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read in your browser with the standard file API and analysed in memory. It is never sent to us and we could not see it if we wanted to. The only thing saved is the unit costs you type, which stay on this device and can be exported as a file you keep.
Which Etsy file should I use?
A statement CSV from your payment account is the most useful one, because it carries the fee and net columns that make the balance check possible. A sold-orders export works too, with SKU and quantity for the per-item view. If your file has different columns, map what it does have and you get whatever that supports.
Why does it show me a balance check instead of just the numbers?
Because a reconciliation tool that might be wrong is worse than no tool. If we guessed a column wrong, every total would be confidently incorrect and you would have no way to know. Checking that amount plus fees equals net on every row is how you can tell the difference from the outside.
Some rows do not balance. Is the tool broken?
Usually the mapping is off — fix the columns first and re-read the check. If the mapping is right and rows still disagree, the disagreement is in the file, and those line numbers are exactly what to ask about. Either way you have something specific rather than a vague sense that the numbers look off.
Can I use this for my taxes?
Use it to understand your own numbers and to hand your accountant a clean CSV. Do not use it as a tax return. Which costs are deductible and how income should be reported depend on your jurisdiction and your situation, and this page deliberately does not guess at either.
Do my unit costs survive if I come back later?
On the same browser, yes. They are saved locally, not on a server. A different device, a different browser, or a cleared cache loses them — which is why there is an export button. Keep the JSON file and you can import it anywhere.
Does it handle multiple months at once?
One file at a time for now. Analyse a month, export the normalized CSV, and combine them in a spreadsheet if you need a longer view.
